Nyx Jumbo eye pencil in Electric Blue
and Purple Velvet review.
Since discovering that we had an Ulta store now in my town I had been wanting to take a trip to the new Mecca of makeup. I was hoping that they would offer more affordable brands then that of Sephora our other Cosmetics store in town. So finally after wanting to go for weeks I had free time to go and was on that side of town. When I pulled up I took this picture. I know you might think thats lame but to me I was on a new and exciting journey.
When I walked in the building I loved the atmosphere, I was hit with a calming wave of warmth but coolness at the same time which was a wonderful reprieve from the cold outside. Everything is white including the shelves so I guess you could imagine me with the look of wonder and awe that those people get that wonder into the progressive commercials before they meet Flo (or at least in the old ones). Its like walking into beauty heaven, I just wanted to look at anything and everything (which I did isle by isle.)
Previously Nyx was not available for purchase in my location, so I had to be happy with drooling over it from their website. (Which I have purchased a few things from before, swatches and review someday when I get the chance.) But now with Ulta I could try before I buy by using the testers in store! What I was sad about was that in the single eye shadows they didn't have the neon colors only the normal and darker colors, but in the pencils they did. I don't have much experience with Jumbo eye shadow Pencil's so I figured I give them a shot.
Here is a swatch of both with and without primer. (Elf eyelid primer used in this picture)
I took pictures as I did the makeup first just the blue shadow and then adding black liner and then blue liner on the bottom.
Items in used in this look:
Mia Mariu primer and foundation
Nyx glam liner in Azure and Black
Nyx jumbo eye pencil in Electric Blue
The good:
I loved how my eyes matched my hair! I just love this look. The pencil was very easy to apply and glided on without much pressure. I didn't have to layer very much to get the color payoff that I wanted. The pencils are very pigmented and can be used as both shadow and liner. What I also liked was if I made a mistake it was very easy to clean up with a q-tip and a little make up remover that I have (Avon).
The Bad:
Purple Velvet
Purple velvet without primer or shadow.
Layered with Ulta shadow in majesty |
Added Liner on bottom lash line.
This is the Ulta shadow on its own without water or primer.
The Glam:
For the price they are wonderful (highly pigmented, easy application) just be sure to keep it in your purse so you can reapply when needed. (I forgot my makeup bag at work so that wast an option for me.) Also from what I have read if you have a color of powdered shadow that matches if you use some of that on top of the pencil it will help set it and prevent the smudging from occurring so badly (I haven't tested this yet but I am today with the purple velvet.)
On color I give these a 5 star raiting
On long lasting I give this a 3 out of 5 as it lasted through work and till some time after work (2am-11am)
Overall
I purchased this product from my local Ulta and was not compensated for this post.

I love how vibrant the colors are but not how short they seem to last. Thanks for sharing about the company and the product.

ReplyDeleteLove the Electric Blue! Very pretty though it sucks you have to reapply I would think that would last longer.
