Stretch your budget with out straining the quality!

In my house we are frugal quite frugal by necessity  not by choice, we try to not spend a penny over, and we almost always keep our expenses low,  it requires lots of patience, time, effort and team work.  With 2 teenagers, my husband and our cat, we need to stretch our budget as much as we can, even more now since we will be adding a new member to our family. From clipping coupons every Sunday to matching prices at Walmart I'm always looking for new ways to save money.

Right now I'm slowly building a couponing stash (nothing like TLC: Extreme Couponing). My stash mostly consist on diapers, cereal, shampoo, toothpaste, toilet paper, soap and home essentials, Most of he thing are items I can find really cheap or free and they must be products I know my family will use. I'm not an extreme couponer but I've had a couple of lessons that are worth mentioning, first: a good deal is only good if you/your family will use those items. Second buying 1000 jello packs for 20 bucks is not as great if you have to take those 20 from some other items you might actually need (or at least is not a good deal for me).

In the last couple of months there are some items I've been buying with coupons and/or big sales: Diapers (in different sizes) and wipes. With some planning we might be able to save lots of money with our new bundle of love. There is another trick a friend taught me and it's saving by buying the store brand products. Most store brand products like Up &Up from Target, Parents Choice from Walmart or Baby Meijer are manufactured by Perrigo. Perrigo is one of the USA  largest manufacturers of nutritional products.

You will not only find out that your store brand baby formula taste just like the big name brand one but is packed with the same vitamins, minerals and supplements, this also applies to store brand baby feeding products from baby cereal to little puffs or baby food to cereal bites. You will find the same flavor and nutritional benefits in your Perrigo's store brand products.

  1. I like to us a Q every time I shop--but I agree 20 for 1000 jello packs is just NOT my thing--who needs all that sugar any way...I'm going to check out Crystals book.

  2. It is amazing how much you can save by buying only what is on sale and using coupons. You are so right give the store brands a try! I think many times the store brand is made by the bigger companies and packaged with a different label at a lower price.

  4. You can save money in theory. Are you really saving though when you spend on unnecessary items?

  5. I try to save money by evaluating whether or not we really need something. I'm not saving money if I buy something I don't really need.
