A while ago I read an article about how scents or fragrances can awake or trigger some memories, biology will simply tell you the sense of smell is part of the limbic system which is in charge of the emotional center of the brain. For me every time I smell gardenias or patchouli the image of my mom comes clearly to my mind. The cologne Azarus reminds me of my dad and so on. I guess we all would want to trigger at pleasure some of the best memories we have. When I think about it everything brings back my college years, I was young, it was fun, there was so much to learn, places to visit and so many friends to remember so when I was given the opportunity to review the Masik Collegiate Fragrances, I couldn't be more happy.
The company was founded by Kathy Masik a chemical engineer in 2008, Katie was fascinated by the connection between scents and memory. The first collegiate fragrance developed was the Penn University fragrance from there she worked with North Carolina, in the next years 17 more schools joined this wonderful project. Masik not only sells wonderful perfumes and colognes, but gives back to the community as official licensed product a percent for every bottle sold goes back to school to fund scholarships.
The Texas A&M are both wonderful, A&M perfume (for her) has a soft and sweet scent it totally reminds me of the spring in Texas with flowers blooming on the prairie, The Perfume has top notes of lemon grass, and white bergamot; middle notes of jasmine and violets over a base of cedar and vanilla. The Texas A&M Cologne ( for him) it's such a manly fragrance seductive and strong-willed like most men in Texas, this cologne definitively fits my husband as a Texan he is a cowboy with a wild touch and sweet temper. The mens cologne has notes of Italian lemon, white bergamot and pineapple with middle tones of nutmeg and cinnamon over a base of labdanum, amber and silver moss.
The University of Texas perfume for her, has the classy and sophisticated touch of Austin with hints of country. The fragrance is warm but spicy with a hint of naughtiness, The perfume has top notes of sweet orange, bergamot, with soft touch of orange blossom and mimosa flowers over a base of patchouli and vanilla beans.
We had so much fun testing and trying this fantastic fragrances they not only appeal those who are to die for fans of their school or sport teams but ex alumni who want for a couple of minutes remember the good old times. The fragrances are the right combination between a lasting scent without being overpowering.

ReplyDeleteI definitely believe that scents can invoke memories! I'm not sure if I would want a "college" scent, but perhaps one from a vacation or something would be great!
ReplyDeleteI am not sure about the science as I've never looked into it, but I can tell you with certainty that certain smells absolutely trigger memories. My grandmother used to wear a fragrance that to this day if I smell anything close it evokes a great memory for me. I don't even know what it was, but it was her!
ReplyDeleteInteresting to think that colleges now are getting their own fragrances. Collegiate branding really is everywhere. Nice review.

ReplyDeleteAwesome idea. Yes, I believe that perfumes and memory jive with one another. In my own explanation, I can say that I can identify the members of my family who visited our house just by sniffing the scent that lingers in our house.

ReplyDeleteI agree with you on how certain scents can trigger memories. Certain colognes remind me of my dad and it brings back those wonderful memories. My husband is kinda picky with his cologne so its hard to say what he would wear.
ReplyDeleteThese are pretty awesome! If they have an Iowa Hawkeyes one my hubby would be all over it!
ReplyDeleteI love scents that bring back memories. Especially of my childhood. My Dad used to wear Old Spice and I've seen it recently in stores. Not sure if it's always been there or just making a come back, but I love the reminder.
