I'm a fan of the Asian culture, food and history I find it rich, colorful and full of traditions, the food is an art and created with exotic ingredients as a mix of texture and flavors, Japanese food is one of my favorites: I love the miso soup, some tempura, yakitori, but I'm not familiar with many sweets or deserts, I've bought a couple but I have no clue what they are called or how they were made and I'm always wiling to try more. Not long ago I came across the opportunity to review a monthly subscription box filled with Japanese sweets. Candy Japan is a subscription box that delivers twice a month a diverse mixture of carefully selected delicious Japanese sweets for only $ 25 each month.
I received a box for the month of April and it was filled mostly with pastries. I'm not complaining while I would love to have the chance to test some bubblegum or chocolate, I can find that type of sweets anywhere in the world, but usually the pastries are typical and have more traditional flavors and textures, my gorgeous box had an accident in their way home and it was mistreated, smashed and so were most of the sweets inside; I'm quite sure the people from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection was a tiny bit jealous (j/k). Anyways while the candies weren't in their best moment, they did taste wonderful, I love the mix of flavors and textures. My favorite one was this pastry a sorta patty the outside reminded me of the Eucharistic wafer flavor and I'm not kidding the pastry had a light texture, semi crunchy with almost no flavor or a flavor so subtle it's hard to describe while the filling was some sorta hearty jam with the texture and flavor, it looked like a sweet beans paste or quince cheese; anyways the mix was completely and utterly delicious, the bars and square candies were really similar in flavor and texture.
