I have a thing for melted crayons. I have done many projects with melted crayons on canvas and since its easter thought I would do something a bit different. This is a craft that will require adult supervision.
What you will need:
Heat gun or blow dryer
Hot glue gun (high temp works best but you can get by with low temp)
Crayons
Cardboard
Something to sit the egg on.
Packing tape
scissors
Knife
Eggs (I used plastic)
Eggs (I used plastic)
I used a heat gun and a low temp glue gun as thats what I had on hand but with a low temp glue gun the glue sometimes dries before you can get the crayon down.
On to how!
1. Take crayons and cut them into small pieces. Each crayon should make about 3-4 pieces. Do this until you have your desired colors.
The more eggs you are doing the more crayons you will need. I do crayon crafts all the time so when they go on sale I grab a few boxes.
2. Take some paper and lay it down to protect your crafting area. I used the brown wrapping paper you find at Walmart in the shipping supplies section.
3. Cut your cardboard to a small strip that your crayons will fit on and keep your hand safe from the heat.
4. Bend the cardboard into a triangle and secure with packing tape. I did 2 of these one to set the egg on and one to put the crayons on.
5. Pick the order you want the crayons in and attach them to the cardboard using the hot glue gun.
6. Hold the triangle from the back to have your hand effectively shielded from the heat of the blow dryer or heat gun.
7. Hold the crayon triangle above the egg. If you are using a heat gun you will need to hold this about 4 inches above and let it drip down. Because the heat gun is so hot if you do it closer to the egg you will end up melting the crayon off the egg as you get it on there. (that would be try number one for me!) If you are using blow dryer it can be about an inch or less above the egg.
8. Keep going until you are satisfied with how it looks.
9. Enjoy your work!
Super cool idea, I'm going to try it with my son!
ReplyDeleteThis idea would be perfect for us to use with out old/broken crayons. Thanks for sharing.
