The second handmade polish I tried was Glowstick. Now I was actually very excited about this one because it's a neon green with a shimmer and glows in the dark. When I ordered the product I knew from the pictures on the store I would need an undercoat of another color since this color is so light. For this I purchased Wet n' Wild Fergie brand in the color Glowstick. I tested this polish both on top of the solid color as well as alone. It does look better if you use a solid green underneath before applying the glow in the dark Glowstick. I was very disappointed though because on my nails the polish did not glow in the dark. The bottle itself even after sitting in a lighted room all day barely glowed at all in a pitch dark room when I went to bed. As a side note I did give the bottle to Miss Ruby to try and she discovered it works very well under a black light. She was however able to get it to glow very lightly for a few minutes after being outside all day. The only time I was able to get it to glow in the dark was to hold my fingers under the LED lights from my gel nail kit and upon the LED shutting off my nails would glow for about thirty to sixty seconds. This was also while being used as a topcoat for the solid Wet n' Wild brand Glowstick color so I don't know if that caused any adverse affect or not.
All in all I think the handmade polishes are a nice alternative.
AGirlObsessed had a ton of different colors and styles and offers the option of custom polishes. As of today upon checking her page her Etsy store is temporarily closed due to starting school and trying to get into the swing of things as she says. There is a note to feel free to contact her via email for any reason. I was trying to go back and check her site for polish prices since I have a terrible memory and cannot remember how much these were. I do remember thinking upon trying to decide which ones to purchase thinking for handmade polishes the prices were a lot cheaper than I would have imagined and would have no problem purchasing from her again. She was very nice to do business with and even contacted me to let me know she was running behind on shipping because of other circumstances beyond her control keeping her tied up. Once the polishes were shipped they took almost no time to get to me and were wrapped very well in bubble wrap to make sure there was no breakage. And who doesn't love bubble wrap? 8 )
I love nail stuff! I like the glow in the dark one!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea it was even possible to make your own nail polish!
ReplyDeleteI wish the glow in the dark one glowed more. I would of bought some and freak my husband out lol
I love them all and oh gosh that black light polish I am looking for those for a while now!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the glow in the dark polish and I know my daughters would too!
ReplyDeleteI love visiting your site because you have such neat products that review. Specially nail polishes. For this one, I would love to try the glow n dark one. That must look awesome under a black light. Thanks for sharing these great reviews.
ReplyDeleteThe AGirlObsessed Etsy store owner was such a pleasure to do business with. I was not provided the polishes for free in exchange for my review however she was kind enough to give me a discount. I forgot to include in the review that the polishes she makes are free of the three harmful chemicals found in most retail polishes. Once her store opens back up I would definitely recommend checking it out. She has quite a variety and when I asked is she could make the glow in the dark in pink or purple she said it would be no problem. So if you see something you like but want another color or see a color you'd like to have with a different glitter style in just message her on Etsy and she will let you know if it can be done.
ReplyDeleteLove the glow in the dark one. I don't like thick polishes at all. I always make my nails all bumpy trying to paint them.
ReplyDeleteWasn't so much bumpy from the polish I just had trouble keeping the stars and moons where I wanted them. I think I ha too much on the brush. It did take several layers of top coat to smooth out the chunky glitter tho. Some ppl like the textured feel but it's not for me.
DeleteWhen I open up shop I will re formulate Glowstick to glow better! Glitter polishes take some finesse. Do two thin coats then dab and place the large glitter (stars, moons etc.) where you want, let them set and then do a nice thick coat or two of topcoat. No bumps!
ReplyDeleteI also tried it and Loved it! Anything with moons and stars has my attention!
