The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

All thoughts and comments in this review are my own and not influenced by any outside sources.  This book was not provided for review it was purchased via the Kindle Store by myself for recreational reading.

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman and illustrations by Dave McKean is in my opinion a great read for a variety of age groups.  I am about to turn twenty-seven (27) in just a few days and I have been a huge fan of Neil Gaiman since I discovered the Sandman graphic novels in high school for which he is most famous.  My most recent Gaiman purchase was a copy of The Graveyard Book which started out as just a simple short story for a compilation including many other authors called Witches.  Honestly, this short story is the only one that I could recall in detail from the entire book.  The short story left me wanting more and I needed to know who this character Nobody Owens was and why he was raised in a graveyard by ghosts.

Enter The Graveyard Book.  I'm going to try to review the book as best I can without any spoilers.  We find out in the first chapter just how the child Nobody Owens ends up in a graveyard being raised by ghosts and having a vampire as his guardian.  We also watch as Nobody Owens or Bod for short grows up and feels a need to be in the world with the living and the problems this causes for Bod and his adopted family.  You see, there is someone searching for young Bod, and for this evil man time seems to be running out and he knows it.  We just don't know why.  We also don't yet know the importance of what happened to Bod's living family when he was just an infant and why his survival is causing problems for the evil man still searching for the boy that got away.

I am about half way through this book and I can't put it down.  I'm just as curious as Bod, I NEED to know why he is such an important child.  I can't wait to finish this book.  Right now its on sale for the Amazon Kindle.  (I have the Kindle app for my iPhone, iPad and Android Tablet so you don't actually need to have a Kindle just a device with the app installed.)

I hope you all love this book as much as I do.  Happy reading.  :)

(Other books I would recommend by Neil Gaiman: The Sandman Graphic Novels, Stardust, Good Omens and American Gods.  He has written many other books I just have not had the opportunity to read them yet.)

    1. Thanks, it's always nice to hear from someone else who loves the Sandman. It has to be in my opinion the best thing I've ever read. Neil Gaiman is my favorite author and I haven't read a book of his I didn't like.
